Fun with Florals

Recently, I gave a watercolor workshop at Star Harbor, Texas to a group of 18 fellow floral enthusiasts. We had a great time exploring the magic and beauty of watercolor!

SWA International Juried Exhibit - Ft Worth, Tx

This summer, my painting, At Maxine's, was chosen for the Society of Watercolor Artists International Juried Exhibit.

A Face in the Crowd

Florals! Florals! I love florals. This painting was inspired by some of the most beautiful orchids I saw at the San Antonio Arboretum.

One...Singular Sensation!

This painting was inspired by a photo I took at the San Antonio Arboretum. It so reminded me of the wonderful song from the Broadway play, A Chorus Line, titled One. This painting was also selected to be a part of the TVAA Nature and Wildlife Exhibition in their downtown Dallas gallery.

Three for the Road

I have always been inspired by Nature, and its beauty. Having lived on a lake for the last 15 years, I'm always thrilled to see the beautiful wood ducks that you sometimes catch a rare glimpse of. These beautiful creatures inspired me to paint this watercolor. This painting was recently selected to be a part of the Texas Visual Arts Association Nature and Wildlife Exhibit in the Plaza of the Americas downtown gallery.

In a Field of Poppies

This is a large follow-up painting of poppies I saw in Hubbard, Texas along the roadside. As I was driving through this small Texas town, my eye was caught by the beauty of the majestic red "popping out" from the blanket of green.

Recently, this painting titled "At Maxine's" was selected for the 2011 Society of Watercolor Artists International Juried Exhibition. The juror was Ric Dentinger. The crystal belongs to my friend Maxine, thus the title. This is one of my favorite paintings. I love painting the shapes, patterns, and light and shadows of crystal.

4/20/11

This is a small painting (11" x 15") done of red poppies I saw in front of a house in Hubbard, Texas. They were brilliant red orange and planted so beautifully in the front walkway where they were a "show stopper"! I plan to do a larger version of this, soon!

4/16/11

This past weekend my painting, Awakening, was awarded Best of Show in the 2011 Henderson County Art Show.
This painting, titled Joy, was selected to be exhibited at the 45th Richardson Civic Art Society Regional Art Show to be held May 4 - May 30, 2011. This was my second year to have one of my artworks selected, and it was certainly an honor to be chosen to participate in this art exhibit.
Camellias from the backyard of the home that I will soon be leaving. Have planted new camellias at our new home...love camellias!

These are orchids I photographed in San Antonio early last summer at the San Antonio Arboretum's orchid house....splendid orchids of all colors, sizes, and colors!

Stopping by on a Snowy Day

This is a painting done of a "once in a lifetime" shot of a rare red fox. Just last week, we had a rare 4-5 inch snow at our lake home. My neighbor called to tell us that a red fox was heading toward our house. We waited, watched, and caught it as it paused to rest. It looked right at us, and I hurriedly snapped a photo.
What an extraordinary sight it was!

Awakening

My latest, and perhaps favorite painting, is "Awakening". As mentioned before, magnolias are one of my favorite flowers and this painting seems to capture the light, beauty and grace of the magnolia.

Reflections of Koi

One of my favorite subjects to paint is koi. Saw these beautiful koi in a Japanese garden and had to paint them!

Crystal and Peaches

Another painting of crystal from my friend, Maxine's, exquisite collection.

Magnolia's Magnificence

Florals are my favorite subject to paint, and magnolia's are one of my favorite flowers. My parents had 3 large magnolia trees in the back of their home, and I always looked forward to the blossoms each spring/summer. This magnolia was captured on a huge magnolia tree in Athens, Texas near where I live.

At Maxine's

This is a painting I completed in December. I had attended a workshop given by Joyce Faulkner and was so interested in painting crystal, but had very few pieces. When I asked my friend Maxine if she knew anyone who might have some crystal, she said, "Boy, do I!" She invited me to her home to see her lovely collection. These are only a few of the pieces she had....thus the title for the painting, "At Maxine's".

Catching up

I have not posted any new items to my blog since August as my husband has been going cancer recovery from pancreatic cancer. It has been a long journey for him, but we are so happy to report he is doing much better now.

I want to update my blog with photos of my work. This painting, "Big D", was entered into the State Fair of Texas, along with the painting posted earlier, "Buzzin' around Texas". Both won the blue ribbon in their categories! I love the city of Dallas and tried to paint my favorite places to capture the spirit of the city.
